Community Projects
WATERSLIDE
The Club built, and has operated the popular slide on the Ovens River at Centenary Park, Bright since 1983. During that time it has raised over $500,000 which has been allocated to support the development of community facilities and services. The slide is open every afternoon during the summer school holiday from Boxing Day onward, and on weekends until March. The slide is supervised by Rotarians and community volunteers. This inexpensive holiday activity is enjoyed by people of all ages.
ALPINE RELAY FOR LIFE
The Club became involved in this event to support people affected by cancer and to help future generations to have a better chance of preventing or surviving cancer. The event was initially held at Pioneer Park, Bright however it has moved to Myrtleford. The Club encourages everyone to consider forming a team and participating. It is an eighteen hour event packed full of fun activities throughout the night and early hours.

FREE SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT
Sibley Soundshell, Howitt Park, Bright was an initiative of the Club and is now the host venue for Bright’s Annual Christmas Carols performance, and a summer program of entertainment on Sunday evenings . This year our Music in the Park will commence on Sunday the 29th of December and be held each Sunday evening until Sunday the 19th of December.
YOUTH SERVICES
The Club is committed to a supportive New Generations program which encourages leadership and achievement in young people. It invites the participation of young people in a range of Rotary initiatives. The Club also supports local schools, youth at risk, health & well-being and Indigenous programs.

BOWELSCAN
Rotary’s Bowel Cancer Awareness Program promotes the need for all people over the age of 40 to participate in Bowel Cancer month each June. The Program has successfully assisted people for a number of years and has always been supported by the Club. Kits are available from local pharmacies during June.
BRIGHT HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT
In 2010 the Club was invited to form a committee of community representatives to attract support for a redevelopment and expansion of the Bright hospital. With strong support from the community, funding from the Government was obtained to commence planning. The committee is continuing to pursue its aim of bringing the project to fruition.
PIONEER PARK
In 1966 the Rotary Club planted eight hectares of trees at Pioneer Park Bright which has subsequently been harvested twice, with the proceeds having been reinvested in facilities within the picturesque Park for the benefit of sporting and recreational clubs and the community. While the plantation has now ceased the Club has continued to allocate funding. The Bright Pony Club has recently received funding for much needed work.
RIDING FOR THE DISABLED
The Club has proudly supported a dedicated local association that uses horses to aid and support the development of disabled children. The Club has contributed towards fees, helmets and other needed equipment.
ANNUAL LITERACY PROJECT
At the beginning of each year, children who are entering their first year of schooling at Bright P-12 College, Harrretville Primary School, Porepunkah Primary School and Wandiligong Primary School are each presented with a hard cover picture story book. The books are carefully selected to represent Australian authors and illustrators.
ROTARY PROGRAMS
Rotary programs which the Club supports annually include –
The Rotary Foundation’s mission is to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through improvement of health, education, and alleviation of poverty and has distributed billions of dollars towards achieving this. Its largest program has been the Polio program which commenced in 1985 and has averted over a million childhood deaths worldwide. The Club and its members have given ongoing support to the Foundation and the Polio program.
Australian Rotary Health Research (ARHRF) has allocated $8m to health research grants since 1981. Recently the Club directed its contribution to ARHRF’s Indigenous Health Scholarship program in assisting a young woman from N.E. Victoria complete her nurse training. She now has the opportunity to practise her new profession in her own community.
Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) aims to minimise and eradicate death and suffering from malaria.
Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) organises for children from underdeveloped countries to be brought to Australia for specialist medical attention and operations.
Interplast facilitates surgeons and nurses to travel to destinations within the Pacific region and perform urgent medical procedures.
